born 1964, married, three children. Prior to the start of his legal studies, Dr. Herbst completed a commercial apprenticeship in Augsburg and Berlin and worked for several years as an insurance agent in Hamburg, London, New York and Barcelona. He advised industrial companies in managing commercial risks.
During his law studies, he specialised in commercial and company law as well as liability law and insurance law. A doctorate in graduate school – as a scholarship holder of the German Research Group on “Risk Regulation through Environmental Liability and Insurance” – followed the first state exam. Completed in 1996, its subject matter was “Regulation of Risk and Private Law Systems”. Finally, during his two year compulsory legal training period, he completed internships at the Chamber for Commercial Matters (Kammer für Handelssachen), the German Federal Environment Agency (Bundesumweltamt) as well as at renowned, nationwide law firms.
After passing the second state exam, he worked for the German Environmental Agency on a research project investigating the transfer of sovereign activities to the insurance industry.
As an attorney at law, Dr. Christian Herbst has been advising medium-sized companies and freelance professionals since 1996, on matters of commercial and company law, real estate law, banking law, liability law and insurance law.
He has published papers on liability and insurance law and gives lectures on European company law at the European School of Management. In addition, he is a member of the German Association for the Promotion of Regenerative Medicine (Verein zur Förderung der Regenerativen Medizin) as well as the German Association for the Insurance Industry (Deutscher Verein für Versicherungswirtschaft). Dr. Herbst is furthermore chairman of the Expert Committee on Regulatory & IPR of Regenerate, the European Network of Regenerative Medicine (EEIG).
